An understandable reaction to the Democratic victory on Tuesday will be: “Let’s pay that bastard back!” As I’ve said many times, Donald Trump is a bad man and horrible president. Someday, if he lives long enough, he will be judged and punished for his crimes. In the short term, and to save the country from two years of investigations that lead to another pointless impeachment, why not try to make a deal with the devil?

The leadership of the Democratic Party should sit down with the president and offer him a deal. For not being constantly investigated and impeached, he would agree to the following:

• No stupid triumphal arch!
• No more pointless and malicious prosecutions.
• No veto of bipartisan legislation, including Russian sanctions.
• A good faith effort to end the Iranian debacle.

Keep in mind that if through some miracle he was impeached and convicted, we would end up with the equally corrupt J.D. Vance as president. Better the devil you know, as the wise man once said.

If he doesn’t agree, all bets are off. But it’s worth a try.
